That's my Gurl

So Britney Spear's single "Gimme More" is number 1 on the i tunes charts!

Suck on that Sarah Silverman! cuz it's Britney Bitch!

Sex in the City!

Sex and the City has finally started filming! Sarah Jessica Parker has always been one of my biggest inspirations, in fashion, as well as an actor, and celebrity. Carrie will always be my fav SJP role. She just lives in that charachter so well. Sex and the city was such an awesome show, it showed such an awesome side of NYC, and of fashion. This film is gonna be a fashion-gasm for every person out there who loves clothes. Heatherette (who designed the infamous "Carrie" t-shirt) will be designing several of the costumes for the film. Seriously the teaser pictures have me wet with anticipation. I'm so glad they solved what ever it was delaying this and are finally bringing us the fashion film of the decade.

Fugly People with Problems or the show formerly known as Gossip Girl

So i have now watched to episodes of the CW's new hit show Gossip Girl, and i for one am speechless,i thought that the CW was known for beautifull people with problems (no like seriously, it was in there ad campaign last year.) Gossip girls cast while for the most part is young and slightly attractive, is pretty fugly in comparison to shows like Dawson's Creek, Felicity, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, and Smallville. The cast of young up and comers (Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley, Taylor Momsen, Nan Zhang) looked so good on paper (literally those promo shots made my mouth water in anticipation of the beautiful teen angst that was headed my way) but on screen they look rather average, and even a little blah. While the plot is not amazing, i suspect it will grow into the teen drama i've grown to love and adore. the acting is not great, as an actor i was dying over the complete lack of physical life, and how awkward they looked on screen. I would also like to point out that they are said to be upper east side sociallites, but nothing they've shown is on the upper east side. i live on the upper east side! they keep showing places in Brooklyn, come on people try to hide it at least a little bit. As cheesy as it is though, i do love the blogger "gossip girl's" narration... it is pretty brilliant (and by brilliant i mean so horribly cheesy it makes me excited to hear the next gut-busting line of brilliance). Also in the first episode main charachter Serena drinks martini's at the hotel bar, even though they have clearly said she is underage, i believe 17 or 18. but they covered it up with a crack about serving minors, i was like good form CW. All and all the show is completely dreadfull. it had aspirations of being a "Cruel Intentions" meets "90210" at a dive bar and they have a threesome with "Sex and the City" type drama, which it still could rise out of the ashes and become, but i'm alittle wary...

don't get me wrong, im soooo watching it every week. It's my new guilty pleasure.

Bazaar Gardens

So sometimes i wonder what people are thinking when they decide to do a photo spread. Like Mary Kate Olsen in this monthes Bazaar. The six page spread of good ole' Mk was supposed to pay homage to the Edie Beale, and her daughter "lil" Edie, of Grey Gardens. Now the Beales were nutters, can anyone else see the downward spiral this photo spread is headed. Now i have to start off by saying that MK was my favorite Olsen, granted her bag lady chic style was a little to much for me, but god bless her for trying. She was so fashion forward and dared to be different. And she had finally started to grow out of it. She was wearing all these classy vintage pieces that seemed to be straight out of the 40's glamour i adore. She dyed her hair platinum and was rocking it (if you asked me). She even looked like she had put on a few pounds, i was thrilled. But lately she's been letting me down. She went a little goth, and went back to wearing all those crazy hippy grandma layers. What the heck MK, you don't have to do that, we know the differences between you and Ash. I was so excited when i heard you were going to be on the cover of Bazaar, I almost immediatly snatched it up, waiting to read an intense and amazing interview where you reveal that you are just like everyone else, and you divuldge some of your style secrets. Instead, i got a rather awkward article where i learned that your a little crazy, and love to walk around the house naked with jewelrey on. Swing and a miss Mk. Now even though i'm sure the idea of paying tribute to Grey Gardens on paper might have possibly sounded good, was there anyone around the water cooler who maybe saw a few of the gigantic red flags... even after the shoot happened did no one see how crazy she looked.... i mean honestly, and i fully feel that MK is healthy and everyone needs to back off, and let the girl live... but god damn, her face looked thin (especially with the disgusting red wig they put her in) MK what happened to being in control of how people see you.. for shame...

all though i must admit she wears the most beautifull crown in one of the shots, that almost made that photo spread worth it

Little Tomato

For those of you who see me on a daily or weekly basis, you hav heard me talk about my t-shirt line. Heck if you are my friend on myspace, or if we im, you've heard me talk about it. I have been working on it for almost two years now, trying to get it just right, get the right feel, the right style. I have finally found it, and i plan on sharing it with everyone as fast i can. The two images i am sharing today, are gonna be the main logo, one with the company name (Little Tomato) and one with i guess what is our mascot, my very own Little Tomato (he is going to be making several appearences because i kinda am in love with him. there is a picture of him on my fridge - i swear it!)

these were done by a very talented friend of mine, John McGee. He has been helping me out so much in realizing my dream. This is a huge step towards greatness, and more steps are being made as we speak. thank you to everyone who has been suppotive, i hope i don't let anyone down :)

More Unfortunate Souls

So i hate to say this but I found this picture that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton recently posted. The picture was taken by Joan Marcus for Travel & Leisure magazine (October issue).

So while my stomach has not stopped churning completely, this picture does take away a few of the qualms i had with the original image (which was a bit funny, and off colored due to being scanned from a news paper.) this one is alot clearer, and the hair looks alot better, it no longer reminds me of cotton candy from a carnival. I still don't really see Ursula sea witch, but it is a step closer from the spiky alien transvestite they were calling Sherie Rene Scott in costume. the make up in this picture is a huge step up for me though, so unless she is going to put on huge false top lashes and cake her skin in pink, i think we are a step up in the right direction.

p.s. i totally want a little mermaid bathrobe... some one work on that for me :)

Sell that Cotton

for those that know me, you know how much i love fashion. Not clothes, but fashion. I love finding the perfect pieces, and putting things together in a way that people hadn't thought of before. I don't get a thrill from finding one article of clothing, but finding the one perfect garmet that completes an outfit. i calculate everything i wear, and i am always looking for my next great find, my next great look. Well i just found out yesterday that i am going to be doing merchandising for American Apparel. I am so excited. I will be dressing the window displays, and mannaquins in the store. I will also be in charge of product placement inside the store. I am so excited about this oppurtunity. I love American Apparel, and wear there clothes like it's my job, so to be able to do this for work is going to be such a blast, i already feel like i am going to be learning so much. i will be going through training the next couple weeks, and after october 11th I will be flying solo. Hopefully this will be an exciting developement that will grow into something else.

Smallville: Beautifull People with Problems

so everynight i go to say my prayers, and i wish for the simple things health, happiness, watch over my mom and dad, Zac Efron, and for them to re-make Supergirl the movie. Ok so i am exagerating a little ( i don't pray for happiness) but seriously, the first Supergirl movie was off the hook. The special effects were totally ahead of their time, i'm mean did you see the way they edited those quick changes, and the battle at the end. brilliance personafied. And with Supergirls amazing re-invention as a fiesty animated teen on the wb, followed by her re-introduction into the comic book universe being drawn by genius michael turner (if you don't know his work google that shit, he is fierce!) She is sooo prime for a big budget silver screen film helmed by some awesome director, starring a saucy unknow (or Lindsay Lohan, i mean she needs a good block buster... and i support anything Lindsay is in) Today i found out i'm sorta getting my wish, on Sept 27th the seventh season of Smallville is going to be introducing Clark Kent's (played by the most gorgeous Tom Welling) cousin from Krypton Kara (aka furture Supergirl). she will be played by new comer Laura Vandervoort. I am soooo excited. Tom Welling and Supergirl, it's almost too much for me to handle. The CW has said that Kara will have all the same powers as Clark (plus the ability to fly, which Clark has not yet fully developed) but Kara doesn't feel the need to hide herself, or her powers. THAT IS SO HOT!!! A sexy sassy Kara flying around kansas causing trouble for Clark, and Lex. What more could i ask for. Thank you smallville for answering all my prayers (please tell Zac i am expecting him, and the door is unlocked :P )

i also saw the most amazing vest at J crew... ok so all the vests at J crew are amazing, but what are you gonna do.

Britney, Tyra, and the aftermath

i'm not a huge fan of this, but this was done really really well. i watched it like four times.

Gimme Bore

So apparently the only thing worth while to talk about this week is Britney Spears. Every tabloid in the country is posting stories about her, and what seems like a huge road block on the come back trail. Tabloids have reported that Britney did her own hair for the VMA's using a box of drug store hair dye. Hair dresser to the stars, Ken Paves did come to Vegas to do Britt's hair but left due to differances. Sources are also saying Spears refused to use a stylist, instead costuming herself, hence the lack of costume (which Spears used to be known for) and misshaps with her shoes (the heel was wobbly, and hard to dance on). MTV has stated that Spears only had two rehersals for the performance, while most performers rehearse for weeks. Other sources have said that Britney change the routines several times, because she was so nervous. Alot of people are asking "What happened to the act she was supposed to do with Criss Angel"? Apparently He pulled out because She wouldn't rehearse. Britney was also seen partying all over vegas before the night of the VMAs. What i'm wondering is where is her manager, where is her team that is supposed to be keeping everything together, does she have no one near her that says no. Alot of people are saying this is the end for America's former Pop Princess. I will never call Britney Spears "America's FORMER Pop Princess" She IS America's Pop Princess. No one has taken that title from her. She changed pop music, and became an icon and a sex symbol around the world. Who has come close, Hillary Duff? I don't think so, Duff can barely perform like Britney, and i highly doubt Hill is ever gonna bring us something as contreversial as "Slave 4 U" or "Toxic". Britney Spears has sold over seventy-six million albums worldwide. She has had 6 albums (4 studio albums, 1 greatest hits album, and a remix album) and has 1 coming out on November 13. She has had 7 number one hit singles. Her concerts have sold out all over the world. Her live performances have pushed the envelope almost everytime. Everything she does, from the drinks she drinks, to who does her hair is talked about and documented. She has had one of the most major endorsements of our generation (umm Pepsi anyone, she changed the way advertising was done with those comericals) She has stumbled, and She has fallen, but as a public who once courted her every move, and adored her, who are we to turn our back on her now, when she needs us, and not the other way around. Britney i will be here waiting for you to come back with another hit like "Toxic". Remember one performance isn't a comeback, an album is a comeback, and I know Britney is gonna rock out for us.

Poor Unfortunate Soul

Oh Sherie, what have they done to you.... No wonder Emily Skinner left the show, i would have too. While portions of this costume are totally brill. I have to say i'm a bit scared. The tenticals look a bit odd to me, and i can't imagine how that is going to move onstage. I like to blame my dislike on the hair and and make up on the fact that it's a small picture, and it's a bit fuzzy. i'm trying to find more pictures, because it could easily be the angle or what not... but I fear for Sherie. it almost looks to comical. What made Ursula so awesome was she had the ability to go from comical and funny and saucy to evil genius, and sinister. i don't see how she can do that in that costume.... i do love the main fabric that they used though, that is a pretty awesome texture. i honestly am leaving it open to not make a complete judgement till i see it.

Heatherette

So last night i went to see Logan's Show at Lucky Chengs. as always Logan turns it out, and I am most definatly in love with his brand new blue hair. The night was fun, Lo performed Legally Blonde, but was minus Chandi, so i stepped in for impromptu lip-synching to the gayest broadway musical. It was quite fun. These two women were there celebrating a birthday, and they were amazing. they entertained me the entire night, and also kept telling me that i was the most adorable thing in the entire world. One of them exchangeed numbers with me, she was like you can be my new york gay. It turns out they work right by my work so we are gonna get lunch one day. They also bought me several cocktails! which was amazing.... only in new york can you meet strangers, and become besties and share a cocktail in the span of an hour. After Lucky Chengs, it was off to the Heatherette After Party, at Lotus. I met up with Jamesson (who is in NY being fabulous for fashion week) i love that boy sooo much, I wish we spent more time together but sadly he is in Orlando, and i am in New York. Jenna Jameson looked adorable on stage, i wish i could have seen her on the runway. Lance Bass was there, and i was still sober enough to avoid him so as not to say something stupid, and get myself thrown out. I talked to Ben Andrews for a hot minute, i miss that boy, i haven't seen him in like a month.
I talked to Lusty J for a bit. I honestly felt like i spent 10 minutes with everyone, which sucks, I miss going out all the time, I'm gonna start making time for a nightlife. I spent most of the night with Paul (so much fun) an Phoenix (he is my boy) Me and Paul spent the entire night drinking (for free, which is the only way to do it) and we chatted it up with Amanda Lepore (who is soo sweet) I definaly had too much to drink (4 is my limit, but i totally had like 8 over the course of the evening) but it was free, and sometimes that's how you roll I left when Lotus closed, i was there till like 4 am, i got home at like 5 am, and had to deal with sooo much shit with Pauls cab, but whatever. I finally got to sleep by like 5:30... and I still woke up at 9:50 on the dot.... my internal clock is disgusting some times.

Holla Back to a kick ass night in the city.

Sweeney is coming... part two

The first two production shots from the new Sweeny Todd film directed by Tim Burton, and starring burton faves Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter. This film is going to be such a master piece, I can't wait to see it.

I <3 Rihanna

So does anybody remember when Rihanna first came on the scene? i do, because i was working in a music store, and we were trying to give her first cd away. We had posters everywhere and could not sell that sh*t period. I personally don't remember a single song from that first album. but i do remember how hard they tried to make her look like she was fresh off of the beach, hair sun-kissed, in all thoughs tropical blouses.... that was possibly the most boring choice of all... if you dont remember feel free to see my carefully picked reminders.

Exibit A

Exibit B

Finally after two albums someone decided that look was tired and boring. Interestingly enough, that someone was Rihanna herself. Rihanna insisted that she shed the image of the young fresh girl from Barbados. She cut her wavey honey locks into a razored bob, and dyed it black, a rather bold move, which i feel distinguishes her from many of the singers she is often compared to.

Rihanna also decided it was time for a visual upgrade, and a new stylist, The old stylist from the first album didn't understand they were ready to move off the island. she found Mariel Haenn, who was on the same page as Rihanna was. The singer is now wearing designers like Zac Posen, Roberto Cavalli and Christian Dior. With the release of her new album she wanted a revamped "glam rock" image. Rihanna has been inspired by the pretty fab "rock 'n' roll" esque designs of Dolce & Gabbana ( a personal fav). Rihanna has said she is trying to find a style that is age appropriate as well as being comfortable, and stylish. I think that judging from the photo's of her that have recently been popping up in magazines, and her appearences on the red carpet, she has found that style.

on the red carpet

Rihanna has also upped the ante on her performances. Umbrella has become a staple at awards shows, and it's always worth it. The video was also by far her best video yet. It took her three albums, but she's finally got a sound, and a style. She cited Madonna as her idol, and those are some pretty amazing and sparkly shoes to fill. But i think Rihanna is capable of it. The best choice she has made so far is pulling herself as far away from Beyonce' as she can. With her new style though it is easy to tell them apart, and i do actually love the differences

Signature Britney

on August 31, Britney Spears hosted at the club LAX. Yet again, she rolled in with a brand new hair style. When she greeted the crowd, she enthusiastically asked them if they liked the blonde. The crowd went wild, to which Spears responded "Blonde is signature Britney", sadly Spear's opening act for the MTV VMA's was not "Signature Britney". Britney opened the VMA's with a lack-luster dance number that seemed to be inspired from Chicago's Cell Block Tango (oddly enough it was rumored that Spears was going to be in Chicago the movie, playing the role that in the end went to pop singer Mya.) The Dancing was lazy, and the lip-synching was off. It's really very sad, because while Spear's has always lip-synched, no one has ever cared, because She is an amazing Dancer, and a steller performer. She has always gone to push the envelope with her performances, especially at the VMA's. Britney's dancers were going at 110%, and Britney wasn't even at 25%. The choreography wasn't bad she just wasn't into it. Neither was the audience. Mtv showed clips of 50 Cent, looking thouroughly confused, and P. Diddy, totally stone faced. They also caught a shot of Rihanna (who was the success story of the night, winning several awards, and doing an amazing performance of her hit single umbrella) laughing at the performance. Britney seemed unsure of herself, and un-commited to performing. While her body was not as steller as it was, she still looked pretty descent to be onstage in her nothings. I wanted this to be her big comeback, I wanted to be able to say i was so impressed, and i youtubed it a million times. but i wasn't. I did youtube some old clips of her performing, and it made me even sadder, She used to rock out on stage, she used to dance with such passion and energy. It was easy to see from those clips why the Britney of yester year was such a hot commodity, why she was so talked about. Britney Spears used to be amazing, and from the sound of "Gimme More" she still can be.
But she needs to come back with an awesome video, and she needs to do a real live performance, where she is totally commited to performing. I predict that over the next few days we are going to hear 8 million reasons why the VMA performance was a dud, allready i read an article that placed the blame on MTV for last minute changing the performance, and vetoing the original plan do to insurance and fear of being to prevocative. Another source also blamed comedian Sarah Silverman, who made cracks about Britney meer seconds after she walked off the stage. Silverman's opening line was "Was that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone. Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she's already accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life. It's mind blowing." she also made cracks about Britney's "Britt-bits" and called her two babies "beautifull mistakes". Spears apparently found out right before the performance, and was furious, i would be too. It's fine to make jokes, but honestly she has gone through so much, be a little kind, and leave her kids out of it. apparently MTV is furious with Silverman for making the cracks at Britney's kids as well. What i don't understand is, after they had the same problem with Silverman last time she hosted for making cracks at Paris Hilton the night before she went into jail, they should have known better. Why keep hiring someone who doesn't seem to have any respect for others, and has no inside voice. Yes, she is a comedian, she is supposed to make people laugh. But i wasn't laughing, and it didn't seem like anyone in the audience was either. It was uncomfortable. Now whether or not MTV was the cause, or Sarah Silverman was the cause, Britney still has a lot to prove, and she needs to do it fast. Her album comes out November 13, and i will be there to buy it. I support Britney and want to see her succeed, I just wish Britney wanted to see herself succeed.

All Dogs Go To Heaven

So i found out today that my dog died on monday.... My mom left me message an i didn't get it till today, and i talked to her, but she didn't want to tell me, because i was having a good week. he was 15 1/5 (which is alot in dog years) i got him when he was just barely born, he was actually the runt, and they were going to put him to sleep because no one wanted him. i wanted him though, and so me and my mom got him. and we took him home, and i loved him. he was like the best dog ever. he never growled at people, or bit, or did anyhing bad. we used to go for walks, and run around the yard and play. when i was upset, or lonely i used to sit in my back yard, and he would run up to me and jump on me and lick my face. he was the only person i've ever met who was always excited to see me, no matter how awful i looked, or how stupid i had been, he always wagged his tail and was excited to see me. i don't think i'll ever get a dog that was as awesome as mine. here is a list of things about my dog that made me smile.

my dog loved everyone, i used to say the house would get robbed, and he would be asking the burgaler to play fetch.
my dog loved me more then my step dad
my dog always came when i called him, or when i opened a door, which ever happened first
my dog was the skinny one in his littter, two of his siblings lived down the block, and they were fat.
my dog loves steak from the table.
my dog used to always jump on me and lick my eye... it made me laugh
my dog was a good listener, and a good cheerer upper
my dog loved getting his belly scratched
my dog humped boys and girls with reckless abandon
my dog was a natural blonde
my dog never barked at awkward hours
my dog was my best friend, and a puppy till he died.
my dog was big enough that he didn't fit in a bag, but not so big that he tackled people.
my dog always let strangers pet him

Good Bye Timothy. i love you, and you will be missed.

horoscope of impending...

LEO : Long Live Leo! once again you have triumphedover the darkness, and proved the force is still strong within you. you have emerged safely from under saturn's cloud, more firm in your resolve and solidly n your course (or so we hope!) How brave you were to open your heart and become so affectionate, not to mention emotionally honest. money is always an issue, but after this trip through the underworld it should be a piece of cake - not that anyone expects you to stop bitching and moaning

so i'm not quite sure what all this means but it seems very accurate after my summer.... hmmm

IT'S Britney B*TCH

well i hate to be the one to say it, but "oops she did it again", Britney Spears released her first single since 2003 on August 30, 2007. Gimme More is a pretty solid track. It has an awesome base, and a pretty sexy song. When i heard it in the morning, and it definatly ran through my head all day long. Britney is pretty on top for this dance single, it's no "Toxic" but at least it's worth listening to unlike "Do Something" and "I've Just Begun Having My Fun" which were both on her greatest hits album. For Britney's sakee i hope she has a hit single, and a hit album. Honestly i want her to get her life together, and start making the music we had grown to love her for. She is in need of a hit, what with her personal life being very sadly exploited, and her upcoming custody battle for her two children, she needs some great publicity. hopefully she does a better come back interview then the one for allure magzine. Britney never showed for the article so instead the allure reporter wrote about her unproffesionalism. Sad times Britney.

Does anybody remember when Britney Spears was hot? hopefully she will start reminding us.

Holla Back

so right now i am currently costuming one of my favorite musicals, "Little Shop of Horrors" for the Atlanta Lyric. This show has been such a blast for me. I honestly feel very blessed that i have gotten to do this oppurtunity. It has been so fun creating the look for this show, and watching my ideas come to life. Anyone who knows me, knows how much i love clothes, and how important personal style is. I live to dress people, i live to give my opinion on what someone is wearing, i love to take clothing risks, and go for the bold choice. So this oppurunity has been great. the last couple weeks though i have felt a bit over my head, i have felt a bit tired, and like i just can't get it quite right. it's been tough for me, and i have second guessed alot of my ideas, and choices (partially because Little Shop is a classic!) I have had massive doubts about all of my creative enterprises, and defiantly felt like a little fish in a big pond (more like ocean!) Sometimes i want to crawl back into the hole that was California. life would be so easy. But i keep going, and on monday i was out shopping for Little Shop. I went to Loemans, to pick up a cardigan i had seen a couple weeks ago that i felt was just perfect for Audrey. They had it, and in two sizes both of which would fit the girl playing Audrey. When i shop i always ask a second opinion, even if its a stranger, i always ask for a second opinion. I figured the larger size would fit best, but i wanted to make sure so i scanned the floor, and there was a tall slender, and fashionably dressed african american woman close by. i walked over to her, apologized for my intrusion, and asked her my question. She agreed with me, and said that the larger size would be better. i thanked her, and she then replied with "it's so funny you would ask me about that garment" i asked why, and she said "because i worked for Lara Kazan (the designer) for several years" I was completely in shock. My jaw dropped to the floor. She asked me what i was using it for, and i told her i was costuming a musical called "Little Shop of Horrors". She looked at me and just smiled and said you havee no idea how Audrey that sweater is. And i laughed and told her i did, and that i knew it was perfect the moment i saw it. She laughed and then told me that they had pictures of Ellen Green from the movie on their inspiration wall for the line the sweater had came from. Now for me, that was like this huge sign that I am doing everything right, I am where i need to be, doing what i need to be doing. It seriously made my whole day, and ever since then everything has been clicking, and it doesn't look as scary as it did a couple days before.

I do love a good tease

so some of ya'all don't know me like this, but, I am the hugest Batman fan ever. fastest way to my heart is some batman memorabilia (being cute also helps, but batman gets you there faster!). I have been waiting for images from the new batman film, like some people waited for Harry Potter. This movie is gonna be off the hook, not dissapointing ( Spiderman, X-men the last stand, it tried but not even half naked Hugh jackman saved it...) or flat out retarded (Catwoman, The Hulk, Ghost-Rider ) this comic book movie is going to be worth it. the best thing so far, is Katie Holmes won't be in this film, She has been replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal, a real actress who has been queen of the indie screen. Heath Ledger has been cast as Batman's arch-nemisis the Joker. i'm still holding my breath that they will be throwing in gal pal side-kick Harley Quinn ( and that she be played by Brittany Murphy, because no one does crazed like my home gurl!). From the look of the trailer there might also be a Two-Face appearance, all though nothing has been announced. The rest of the cast from the first film, being headed by Christian Bale, is returning.

Legally Blonde going Global

So right now i am sooo freakin stoked, MTV has officially announced that they are going to film Legally Blonde and air the entire musical several times. The first show of the MTV special Legally Blonde - The Musical (which includes a kinda kick-ass backstage portion) is scheduled for Saturday, September 29 at 1PM. MTV is going to be filming the show twice, so they can get all the angles and shots they need, and then edit the two performances together. This is gonna be so awesome, i am soooo excited for the fact that movie musicals, and musicals in general are making a serious comeback. Please watch the special on MTV, because the more we make the audience know, the more likely they are to do it more often, with other shows, and give Broadway a whole new life, and a new set of fans who are excited about the theatre. I know i'm gonna be watching Legally Blonde on my TV on September 29th, i might even make it a party.

Midsummer Night Fling

Last night i went to see Daniel Sullivan's (Rabbit Hole, and the Tony award winning Proof) staging of A Midsummer Nights Dream at the Delacorte Theatre in Centeral Park. The cast for A Midsummer Night's Dream includes Opal Alladin (Hippolyta), Jason Antoon (Tom Snout), Chelsea Bacon (First Fairy), Ken Cheeseman (Robin Starveling), Christine Corpuz (Ensemble), Keith David (Oberon), Mireille Enos (Hermia), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Francis Flute), Herb Foster (Philostrate), Simon Garratt (Fairy), Jon Michael Hill (Puck), Erica Huang (Fairy), Ben Huber (Ensemble), Cassady Leonard (Fairy), Austin Lysy (Lysander), Lily Maketanksy (Fairy), George Morfogen (Egeus), Tim Blake Nelson (Peter Quince), Daniel Oreskes (Theseus), Martha Plimpton (Helena), Mallory Portnoy (Ensemble), Laila Robins (Titania), Jay O. Sanders (Nick Bottom), Lina Silver (Fairy), Keith Randolph Smith (Snug), Jack Tartaglia (Fairy) and Elliot Villar (Demetrius). All in all it was a solid performance with a pretty solid cast. No one really stood out, all though i felt that the Helena (Martha Pimpleton), and Hippolyta (Opal Alladin) were quite good. The set was simple, natural wooden fences used as a back drop, with a large tree in the center (that reminded me of the the Lion King). the staging was really good, the show was very easy to follow (which is a hard task with Midsummer) the chase sequences were very funny, and the play with in a play was pure brilliance. I always feel that people draw a fine line with Pirimus and Thisby by making it to much slapstick, and taking out the earnest realness of the simple characters. This staging found that fine line, it was very genuine. which was nice for a change. The take on the faries i felt was very interesting. They were almost an upper crust traditional victorian family, Titania and Oberon, head of the house, Titania's fairy a maid, and Puck dressed as a traditional steward. The rest of the fairies were children in traditional victorian costumes. It made for a very strong directing choice, and staging choice. The costumes, allthough beautifull, left alittle to be desired. All of the lovers looked perfect, allthough i would have liked them to be stripped down to more interesting undergarments (the women were in corsets and bloomers, the men simply unbuttoned their shirts, and let their suspenders hang down) The fairies were in very beautifull complex victorian costumes, made out of a metalic fabric in deep jewel tones. for me i felt it would have been mre intresting to make them a little more fairy like, possibly by giving them wings or something that was more mythical, and fantasy like. The most interesting costume was the lead fairy, she was dressed as a mythical version of a traditional maid, she wore a french maid style costume that was given an acrobatic cirque esque twist. I hated the fairy make up for the show, i would like to be constructive, but it was stupid and distracting. The fairies were all covered in a pearl like sheen, and it was totally overdone and looked sloppy on Oberon, and Puck. Titania had this awkward dark stenciled in eye brows, that were not even period, and took awat from any beauty she had... she also had the most awkward wig on. i was so totally distracted by it. The costumes for the play with in a play at the end were simple and brilliant. The wedding costumes for the Lovers were beautiful traditional victorian wedding costumes. The only real gripe i have with this production (and most shakespear productions for that matter!) is when they take parts of the prose and turn it into music. This show was treading a fine line of being "Midsummer Nights Dream; the musical". The entire end of the show was done as a song, and i think it was a really weak choice, not only did puck forget the words to the most famous epilouge ever, the orchestration was weak, and got even weaker as they added in harmonies. i think it would have searved them much better to find an interesting method of staging like they did with everything else instead of turning it into a finale number that reminded me of "Ever After" from Into the Woods. Over all i enjoyed the show, it just seems like some risks shouldn't be taken (i.e. musical finale numbers) and some should (creative costumes and make up.)
