Signature Britney

on August 31, Britney Spears hosted at the club LAX. Yet again, she rolled in with a brand new hair style. When she greeted the crowd, she enthusiastically asked them if they liked the blonde. The crowd went wild, to which Spears responded "Blonde is signature Britney", sadly Spear's opening act for the MTV VMA's was not "Signature Britney". Britney opened the VMA's with a lack-luster dance number that seemed to be inspired from Chicago's Cell Block Tango (oddly enough it was rumored that Spears was going to be in Chicago the movie, playing the role that in the end went to pop singer Mya.) The Dancing was lazy, and the lip-synching was off. It's really very sad, because while Spear's has always lip-synched, no one has ever cared, because She is an amazing Dancer, and a steller performer. She has always gone to push the envelope with her performances, especially at the VMA's. Britney's dancers were going at 110%, and Britney wasn't even at 25%. The choreography wasn't bad she just wasn't into it. Neither was the audience. Mtv showed clips of 50 Cent, looking thouroughly confused, and P. Diddy, totally stone faced. They also caught a shot of Rihanna (who was the success story of the night, winning several awards, and doing an amazing performance of her hit single umbrella) laughing at the performance. Britney seemed unsure of herself, and un-commited to performing. While her body was not as steller as it was, she still looked pretty descent to be onstage in her nothings. I wanted this to be her big comeback, I wanted to be able to say i was so impressed, and i youtubed it a million times. but i wasn't. I did youtube some old clips of her performing, and it made me even sadder, She used to rock out on stage, she used to dance with such passion and energy. It was easy to see from those clips why the Britney of yester year was such a hot commodity, why she was so talked about. Britney Spears used to be amazing, and from the sound of "Gimme More" she still can be.
But she needs to come back with an awesome video, and she needs to do a real live performance, where she is totally commited to performing. I predict that over the next few days we are going to hear 8 million reasons why the VMA performance was a dud, allready i read an article that placed the blame on MTV for last minute changing the performance, and vetoing the original plan do to insurance and fear of being to prevocative. Another source also blamed comedian Sarah Silverman, who made cracks about Britney meer seconds after she walked off the stage. Silverman's opening line was "Was that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone. Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she's already accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life. It's mind blowing." she also made cracks about Britney's "Britt-bits" and called her two babies "beautifull mistakes". Spears apparently found out right before the performance, and was furious, i would be too. It's fine to make jokes, but honestly she has gone through so much, be a little kind, and leave her kids out of it. apparently MTV is furious with Silverman for making the cracks at Britney's kids as well. What i don't understand is, after they had the same problem with Silverman last time she hosted for making cracks at Paris Hilton the night before she went into jail, they should have known better. Why keep hiring someone who doesn't seem to have any respect for others, and has no inside voice. Yes, she is a comedian, she is supposed to make people laugh. But i wasn't laughing, and it didn't seem like anyone in the audience was either. It was uncomfortable. Now whether or not MTV was the cause, or Sarah Silverman was the cause, Britney still has a lot to prove, and she needs to do it fast. Her album comes out November 13, and i will be there to buy it. I support Britney and want to see her succeed, I just wish Britney wanted to see herself succeed.

She is talentless. Lip Synking should never be accepted as a SINGER. I dont care how much dancing U do, then DONT dance. A singer gets paid for just that, not to pretend. Shes a loser who shouldnt have the fame and money. How dare she hit and run a car on cam and not even leave a check for money! What TRASH!

i will admit, i am not a britney fan. i don't like her. i have gleefully read all the nasty trashy photos of her looking like hell.

that being said, i sped all the way home to see this performance. i was expecting her to bring it; and i could have forgiven her if she had.

but she simply did not. she looked tired; her costume did NOT make her look pretty at all. she was off, she stumbled, she didn't even seem to care that she was there.

she's no longer on top. she can't pull that crap. she needed to respect this opportunity to re-invent herself, and as she usually does, she took a shit on that opportunity.

she's obviously out of her damn mind. it's kind of sad.

Okay so I'll be up front, I'm not a Britney fan, however I'm going to take a completely different approach here.

I watched the performance and in all honesty to me it looked like Britney was doing something she didn't want to do. I don't know if it was MTV or the label or what, but in all honesty I can understand her performance. If I was forced to go and not do what I wanted I know for a fact my heart wouldn't be in it and my performance would show it. So in all honesty I can't blame the girl much.

Despite all of that, I think the best thing Britney can do for herself is to take control of her career and let go of the past. I know a lot of people love the old Britney but the best thing she can do is let go of the label controlled version and re-invent herself. She'd be wise to take the offer from Justin and Timberland to collaborate with them. Her best bet is to move away from pop and go a bit more edgier with more club mix by leaning towards some electronica or something along those lines. It will bring her back to clubbing success and place as something independent. Just a thought.

She has become totally irrelevant... and has shown that she now qualifies as sad and pathetic as well. I heard a rumor that her original routine was scrapped by MTV and what we saw was thrown together right before the show. And considering its lack of flash and bang it kinda rings true. But I'm inclined to believe that is the ramblings of a committed fan creating excuses for her deplorable performance.

But my purpose here is to say... Rihanna was not laughing at Brittney... she was laughing at the stripper who was pole dancing on her table top. Give the girl credit for not being rude and pompous, her head was surely swole from all the awards, but she does have some class.

Again... pole dancing on her table top. Niiice

As I told you before. I wanted Britney to make an amazing comeback. She was a bar-setter (whether people like it or not) for performers for at least a short while.

Like you I was incredibly disappointed that she didn't do that then. I completely agree that it seemed like she just wasn't into the performance. She looked sleepy, out of it, and/or terribly bored with her own performance.

Oh and on a quick tangent... Britney almost never called herself a SINGER, so those who are complaining about that need to calm down. She always very accurately called herself an entertainer. That is one thing I always gave her credit for... she knew her strength and didn't pretend to be what she wasn't.

Could she still make a comeback? I think so. But instead of rushing it like she has done so far, she really needs to put something quality that will blow people away instead of something soon.

As for all the excuses... I do admit that in some ways I am worried the die hard Britney fans are only making things worse by trying to spread rumors and highlight stories that are possible excuses instead of just admitting that it was just a horrid performance for some reason.

Hopefully this was an eye opening experience where she (and other artists) learned that people can and will be vicious about bad performances and that you can't stoop below the bar.
